The Earth

The earth is one of the planets in our solar system. It is the third planet in distance from the sun and the fifth largest in diameter. The earth is the only known planet to support life. The earth has three main zones: the lithosphere, the hydrosphere and the atmosphere. The earth is almost spherical in shape, but due to small surface variations it is slightly pear-shaped. It takes the Earth 23.93 hours to rotate around its axis once - this is a called a sidereal day. Each year on Earth takes 365.26 Earth days (in other words, it takes the Earth 365.26 days to orbit the Sun once).
