Daily Fun Fact

The Equator is an imaginary line around the middle of the Earth.

Saturn

Saturn is the sixth farthest planet from the sun and is the second largest planet. Saturn is best known for its hundreds of rings that are made of pieces of ice. These rings are so bright that they can be seen from Earth with a small telescope. These rings were first observed by Galileo in the 17th century.

It takes about 30 Earth years for Saturn to orbit the sun. A day on Saturn is 10 hours, 39 minutes. Saturn is the lightest planet in our solar system. If you could place Saturn in a large body of water, it would float because it is made up mostly of gas and liquid and is less dense than water. There are more moons orbiting Saturn than any other planet. The atmosphere of Saturn is made up mostly of hydrogen. Saturn is named after the Roman God Saturn.

Facts about Saturn:

Distance from the Sun: 886 million miles

Diameter at the Equator: 74,534 miles

Time taken for 1 orbit: 29.5 years

Mass: 95.2 times Earth's mass

Average Temperature: -285 degrees F

Moons: 33 known

When the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, it casts a shadow and causes an eclipse.

The Earth is 93 million miles from the Sun.

There is a high and low tide because of our moon and the Sun.

Billions of years from now, the Sun will swell up to become a red giant which in time will shrink to become a tiny star called a white dwarf.
